Physiological attributes, including rapid ion uptake and rapid root
growth, together with morphological and behavioural features such as the
ability to climb up other plants (e.g. bindweeds) or to scramble over
competitors (e.g. chickweeds) confer a competitive advantage on weeds.
Coastal morning glory (Ipomoea cairica) has the ability
to climb up over other plants.
