Phytophagous fish have been introduced as weed biological control agents. The grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella has been spread world wide from China. Although it had potential for aquatic weed control and fish production (Van Zon 1981), it has been ecologically disruptive through generally reducing aquatic vegetation and displacing native fish species. Fish are no longer considered suitable for weed biological control.

Fish have been introduced as biological control agents.
